2014 Joint Conference of Australian Confucius Institutes opened in Sydney

The two-day 2014 Joint Conference of Australian Confucius Institutes was convened in Sydney on September 4th and 5th, 2014.

The two-day 2014 Joint Conference of Australian Confucius Institutes was convened in Sydney on September 4th and 5th, 2014. The purpose of this conference is to achieve the win-win collaboration among Confucius Institutes by establishing the “Confucius Institute Australia (CIA)”. This conference, co-hosted by Confucius Institute at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Confucius Institute in Newcastle, was attended by all 13 Confucius Institutes in Australia.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Fiona Docherty, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UNSW, stated that the establishment of CIA would be of great benefit in realizing the sustainable development of Confucius Institutes and further expanding the international influence of Chinese language teaching. The sustainable development is the only way that could lead Confucius Institutes to its future prosperity.

Mr Li Huaxin, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, expressed his sincere gratitude and good wishes to Australian governments and educational institutions at all levels for the sound development of Confucius Institutes in Australia. He hoped that this conference would further deepen the development of Sino-foreign trade and promote the spread of Chinese culture

Over the two days, representatives conducted thorough discussions on the advantages of establishing the model of mutual assistance and collaboration among the Confucius Institutes in the region and various issues of CIA, such as its framework, operation, schedule and responsibilities.
