Chinese President Xi Jinping and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa attend the signing ceremony of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka

On September 16, 2014, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban, signed an agreement on the joint establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Colombo with Dr. W. K. Hirimburegama, Vice-Chancellor of the University. Up to now, Sri Lanka has established two Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Classroom, namely, the Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya, the Confucius Institute at University of Colombo and the CRI Confucius Classroom at Lumbini College.
